  Dear Friends,

I would like to welcome you to the Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) website. We hope that you will find this site informative and helpful.

Besides finding information regarding the SILC, you will also find helpful and interesting information regarding healthcare, assistive technology and person first language. Please click on our Resource Newsletter for events, information, resources, and trainings that promote the philosophy of independent living.

SILC is the Statewide Independent Living Council whose mission is to provide leadership and advocacy in support of the independent living philosophy for persons living with disabilities. The Council is made up of individuals who believe that individuals living with a disability should have the opportunity to live independently within their communities.

If you would like more information about the SILC or are interested in becoming a board member, please feel free to contact us. SILC looks forward to continuing to be the lead in independent living in the State of New Hampshire!

MISSION and PURPOSE

The mission of the NH Statewide Independent Living Council is to provide leadership and advocacy in support of the independent living philosophy for persons with significant disabilities.

PURPOSE:

•Promote an independent living philosophy in New Hampshire, for persons with disabilities while advocating for access, full participation, and self-determination.

•Collaborate with appropriate agencies, councils and organizations statewide to promote the independent living philosophy.

•Advocate for housing, transportation, and recreational services that enhance and enable individuals to live independently.

•Gather information on an annual basis to improve independent living services.

•Advise the Governor and state agencies regarding independent living issues.
