  About NH Statewide Independent Living Council  
 
MISSION and PURPOSE

The mission of the NH Statewide Independent Living Council is to provide leadership and advocacy in support of the independent living philosophy for persons with significant disabilities.

PURPOSE:

•Promote an independent living philosophy in New Hampshire, for persons with disabilities while advocating for access, full participation, and self-determination.

•Collaborate with appropriate agencies, councils and organizations statewide to promote the independent living philosophy.

•Advocate for housing, transportation, and recreational services that enhance and enable individuals to live independently.

•Gather information on an annual basis to improve independent living services.

•Advise the Governor and state agencies regarding independent living issues.

MEMBERSHIP COMPOSITION

The majority of Council members must be persons with a disability.


Other members may include:

•Parents and legal guardians of individuals with disabilities;

•Advocates of and for individuals with disabilities;

•Persons from organizations that provide services for individuals with disabilities;

•Representatives of centers for independent living;

•Persons from private businesses
